Application
How can I apply for a apartment in one of the student halls?
You can apply online at www.studierendenwerk-koblenz.de. You can apply if you are enrolled at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences or at University of Koblenz and are not older than 33. First-year students can also apply without presenting their certificate of enrolment - in this case, it is sufficient if you provide us with proof of payment of the semester fee when signing the contract and present the certificate of enrolment upon receipt.
We allocate places on the basis of our allocation guidelines. We give priority to first-year students, disabled students and students with chronic illnesses. We also take other criteria into account when allocating places, such as the distance to your home town or the number of siblings in education.
How long is my application valid?
Your application will remain in our system for one year. During this period, we will send you a monthly email to check whether you are still interested in a place. In this case, please click on the confirmation link in the email within 5 days. Please check your spam folder regularly.
I have not yet been accepted for a study place at the university - can I still apply for a apartment?
Yes. If you do not yet have a certificate of enrolment, it is sufficient if you give us proof of payment of the semester fee when you sign the contract and present the certificate of enrolment upon receipt.
Can I visit the student hall or the room/apartment offered to me before I apply or sign the contract?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. Please use the information and pictures on our website to get an idea of the student halls.
I am chronically ill or have a disability. Are the residences suitable for me?
Disabled or chronically ill people are given priority for a place to live in our student halls. We also have special flats or rooms that are barrier-free and suitable for wheelchairs. Please provide proof of handicaps with appropriate certificates when applying.
How will I know if I have been offered a place?
You will only receive offers for a room/apartment from us by email. Please keep an eye on your email inbox and check your spam folder regularly.
Are the rooms in the student halls furnished?
The rooms and flats are fully furnitured (bed, desk, chair, wardrobe, etc.). A detailed list of the available furniture can be found on the subpages of the individual student halls. There is therefore little room for your own furniture.
You should bring a mattress (exception: Von-Cramm-Str. 10), bedding, towels, crockery, cutlery and cleaning materials.
Are the rents indicated warm rents?
The rental prices are complete rents. In addition to the basic rent, they include water and energy costs, internet connection and hall cleaning. Normally, this means that in addition to the monthly rent, you will only have to pay the broadcasting fee. You can find information on the broadcasting fee and ways to be exempted here.
How is the rent calculated?
The amount of rent is determined by the actual costs incurred by the building. The Studierendenwerk is not allowed to make profits or book losses. We calculate the complete rents with full occupancy.
After move in
Do I have to coordinate my move-in with the housekeeper?
Normally, your contract starts either on 01.03/01.04 or 01.09/01.10. It is best to arrange the exact move-in date with the housekeeper in charge by phone. Our housekeepers are on duty Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:00. They are off at weekends and on public holidays.
Do I have to register my residence in Koblenz or Remagen if I live in a student hall?
After moving in, you must register with the relevant registration office within two weeks. We recommend that students who live in Koblenz register their primary residence in Koblenz, because this way you do not have to pay a second residence tax.
How do I obtain certificates for authorities (BaföG office, immigration office, etc.)?
To obtain certificates for the authorities, please contact the responsible administrator by email (contact Ute Müller-Tiegges, contact Martina Hayduk). You will then also receive the relevant certificate by e-mail.
++ Although we try very hard to issue certificates immediately, we ask for your understanding that processing can take up to a week. Please take this into account when making appointments with the respective authority! ++
Can my pet move into the student hall with me?
Pets are not allowed in our residential facilities. However, upon request we will check whether we can allow e.g. necessary assistance dogs.
I have just moved into the student hall - how do I get connected?
In our student halls, the residence hall councillors organise community life within the residential complex and make sure that new residents quickly feel at home there. For example, they organise welcome parties or joint cinema or games evenings.
I have a problem - who can help me?
If there is damage to your room/apartment, the caretaker can help you. Please use the damage report form or online notice of defect.
The hall of residence council is also always available: It is the interface to the Studierendenwerk's dormitory administration: We receive feedback from them about the needs of the students in the student halls. If there are any uncertainties or problems, the dormitory councillors will suggest solutions. Basically, there are many things that we cannot grant you a legally valid claim to, but we settle them on a goodwill basis.
Is there internet access in my room/apartment?
Internet access is included in the complete rent. The internet connection is wired, there is no WLAN.
Is there a TV connection in my room?
In the "Simmerner Straße" student hall, you have a cable connection in your room and can therefore receive the usual TV programmes. There is a satellite antenna in the "Von-Cramm-Str. 5-7" student hall, but you will need your own receiver. In the student halls "Auf dem Hellen Weyer" and "Von-Cramm-Str. 10" you can only watch TV via streaming service providers (i.e. via internet connection). If you have any questions regarding your TV connection, ourhousekeepers can help you.
Am I allowed to hang pictures, posters or similar on the wall in my room/apartment?
If you want to hang up pictures, posters, mirrors or similar items, please use small nails less than 2 mm thick or adhesive tape that can be removed without leaving any residue. Adhesive tape that leaves marks or thick nails will cause damage, which we will have to charge you for when you move out. Do not drill into the walls! In all cases of doubt, please contact the housekeeper, who will be happy to advise you.
Can I paint the walls in my room/apartment a colour?
All rooms are painted white. If you paint your walls a different colour, we will hire a painter to paint the room white again after you move out. We will have to charge you for the costs of this.
Where can I park?
Please use the bicycle garage, the bicycle cellar or the bicycle racks belonging to the student halls to park your bicycles. Cars can be parked in the car parks of the housing complexes. The outdoor and underground parking spaces in the housing complex "Auf dem Hellen Weyer" must be rented separately.
Be sure to keep the fire brigade access roads clear. You may only use the disabled parking spaces if you are entitled to do so. Otherwise we will have to have your vehicle towed away for a fee.
What do I have to keep in mind about my new address in the student hall?
Please always state your room number in addition to your address.
Example:
First name, last name
Auf dem Hellen Weyer 1
Room xxx
56072 Koblenz
This will not only make life easier for the parcel carrier or postman, but will also prevent your mail or parcel from getting lost.
My contact details/my bank details have changed - who do I have to tell?
If you have a new mobile phone number or email address, please let us know by email so that we can still contact you. Please note that correspondence with us will only be sent via your email address. Please make sure that you have access to your e-mails at all times and that you read them regularly.
If you would like to inform us of new bank details, please use the form (available on our website under Housing/Downloads). We can only take changes into account by the 20th of the month for the following direct debit.
Can I leave my shoes in the hallway?
Unfortunately, that is not possible. The corridors are escape routes and must therefore remain free. The same applies to furniture, boxes, clothes racks, sports equipment, bicycles or other objects.
I need to store something outside my room/apartment for a short time - is that allowed?
If you need temporary storage space for something that does not fit in your room/apartment, please speak to the housekeeper. We will see what is feasible, but cannot guarantee that a suitable space will be found.
Do I have to do any cosmetic repairs?
We will take care of any cosmetic repairs, but we will have to charge you for any damage caused by you (except wear and tear). Please always consult the housekeeper in case of doubt.
Who has to pay for damage to my room/apartment?
We have to charge you for damage caused by you. This includes, for example, broken glass, cracked washbasins, damaged shelves/drawers in refrigerators, screw holes in furniture, window frames or walls or heavy soiling. We therefore recommend that you take out private liability insurance.
Damage due to normal wear and tear will of course be covered by us!
Can the housekeeper enter my room/apartment without my permission or my presence?
The housekeeper only enters your private area in your presence or after consultation with you. In shared flats, only your own rooms are considered private areas, which means that the caretaker may enter the shared areas (kitchen, bathroom) without prior notice.
Can I have my key copied?
No. The keys belong to a locking system. Locksmiths are therefore not authorised to copy them.
Do I have to pay broadcasting fees?
Yes, the ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio broadcasting fee is not included in the rent. This must be paid separately by each resident to the relevant authority. WG residents share the fees. You can find more information here.
Subletting/termination/move out
Can I sublet my room/apartment?
If you would like to sublet your place of residence, for example during a semester abroad, please submit a written application. You can find the form on our website under Housing/Downloads. Subtenants must also be matriculated and be working in Koblenz or Remagen and the surrounding area in a job related to their studies (e.g. internship). During the subletting period, the rent will continue to be debited from your account. In addition, a one-time processing fee will be charged.
I would like to give notice to leave my room/apartment - what do I have to consider?
There are fixed termination dates. These are 28.02./31.03. in the summer semester and 31.08./30.09. in the winter semester. Tenants of the residential complex "Auf dem Hellen Weyer" can only give notice of termination on 31.03. or 30.09. respectively. Please note that the notice of termination must be in writing (no e-mail) and must include the place, date and signature. It is best to use the cancellation form (available on our website under Housing/Downloads).
Do I have to coordinate my move-out with the housekeeper?
Normally, your contract ends either on 28.02./31.03. or on 31.08./30.09. You must vacate your room by 10 a.m. on the last working day of the month of notice at the latest. Coordinate the exact move-out date with the housekeeper in charge by phone or e-mail. Our caretakers are on duty Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:00. The caretakers are off duty at weekends and on public holidays.
