Our scholarship counselling service will help you with all your questions about scholarships.

What is a scholarship?

A scholarship is financial support that is usually awarded by a foundation. These foundations pursue specific purposes, such as the promotion of values, ideas or certain topics. Political foundations, for example, support students who identify with the values and ideas of the foundation. Companies support students who are involved in their field of research. Other foundations, on the other hand, aim to enable children from low-income families to study.

Scholarships do not have to be repaid and often include non-material support through seminars and events.

Why should I apply?

A scholarship is the most favourable form of student financing. It does not have to be repaid and offers numerous advantages:

  • It enhances your CV.
  • It offers access to exciting seminars and events.
  • It enables you to meet lots of interesting people.

What else do I need to consider?

  1. Foundations are partners - not just donors: every foundation pursues a specific purpose with its scholarships. Pay attention to this purpose and look for a foundation that suits you and your preferences.
  2. Research extensively: Don't just think about the large organisations that support gifted students, but also find out about smaller and lesser-known foundations. You can find these in various databases. Start your research early, as many foundations have application deadlines that you must adhere to.
  3. Have a plan B: the application process often takes several months. Even if you have a good chance, there is no guarantee that you will receive a scholarship. Think about alternative funding options.
  4. Use support: Have your application documents proofread by friends and family. Ask the foundations if you are unclear about anything in the application process. And take advantage of our scholarship counselling service.
